Attending a Winter Holiday Celebration Have conversations with the host ahead of time to understand expectations for celebrating together. Stay home if you are sick or have been near someone who thinks they may have or have been exposed to COVID-19. It’s okay if you decide to stay home and remain apart from others. Do what’s best for you. Hosting a Winter Holiday Celebration Have conversations with guests ahead of time to set expectations for celebrating together. Limit the number of guests. Have extra unused masks available for your guests and encourage everyone to wear them inside and outside. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items between use. If celebrating indoors, bring in fresh air by opening windows and doors, if possible. You can use a window fan in one of the open windows to blow air out of the window. This will pull fresh air in through the other open windows. Have a separate space for guests to wash their hands or provide hand sanitizer. Keep background music volume low so guests don’t need to shout. Cancel your gathering if you or someone who lives with you is sick or has been near someone who thinks they have or has COVID-19. It’s okay if you decide to postpone or cancel your gathering. Do what’s best for you. Food and Beverages at Celebrations Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, and utensils. Avoid going in and out of the areas where food is being prepared or handled, such as in the kitchen. Use single-use options, like salad dressing and condiment packets, and disposable items like food containers, plates, and utensils. Use a touchless garbage can, if available. It's important to let other drivers and pedestrians know your next move so they can slow down and accommodate. We recommend signaling at least 100 feet in advance. Riding the brakes. Riding your brakes can cause excess strain on your brakes. Keep your foot off the brake and only use when/ if necessary. Rolling through stop signs. We know this is a habit many struggle with but to ensure everyone’s safety, it’s important to come to a complete stop at any and every intersection you approach. Slowing down to look at crashes or construction. Rubbernecking is not only dangerous, but can contribute to a chain reaction of slowed traffic and potential crashes. Keep your eyes on the road ahead of you to ensure you’re following road rules or police directions. Sudden stops. Always be on alert and anticipate when you might need to stop. Sudden stops will create  excess wear on brake pads. Fast starts. Accelerate at a slow smooth rate, peeling away uses excess gas, and may be putting a strain on the key components of your engine. Running yellow or red lights. Doing so can increase your chance of a car crash. If the light turns yellow before you reach the intersection, it's best not to risk it and wait for the next green light. Disregarding the speed limit. While speed limits vary by state and are typically posted, we recommend using the following ranges as a general guide if you don't see a posted speed limit: Residential area: 15-30 mph Undivided road (rural): 40-55 mph Divided road (rural): 55-70 mph Freeway: 55-65 mph Upgrade Your Ride Here!
